Dinky Dragons

The Brief

Dinky Dragons were a new start up business based in South Woodham Ferrers in Essex when they commissioned me to develop the Dinky Dragon brand. With an impressive background in karate, 3rd Dan black belt, Sam Powell came up with the idea to offer karate classes to pre-school children after receiving a number enquiries from parents. They were keen to know when their children could start training with the martial arts club she co-owned with husband Steve. Sam realised there was a gap in the market and an opportunity to teach very young children some valuable life skills in a safe, non-contact, non-violent environment. The brief was to create a character that very young children could connect with to encourage them within classes. It had to be friendly and not scary. This character would then form part of the logo and brand for Dinky Dragons.

The Solution

Initial sketches for the character were presented to Sam. From there I then developed the Gi -wearing dragon and used feedback from my own children on what would appeal to pre-schoolers. Dinky was born! I then used the character as the main part of the logo. Leaflets and a website have also been created. Dinky Dragons has grown over the last couple of years and there are a number of classes available in South Woodham, Basildon and Chelmsford, Essex. Dinky has also been created into a life size mascot for local events.

After I developed Dinky Dragons, I also started working with Sam and Steve’s other businesses, EKA Fitness and EKA Martial Arts.

What They Say

I commissioned Northsouth Design to develop a logo for my new business venture – Dinky Dragons toddler’s karate lessons. I was extremely impressed with the logo that was produced, and the character “Dinky the dragon” now forms an intergral part of my lessons. I found Northsouth’s service to be friendly and fast, and they managed to capture exactly what I wanted: a logo that is eye-catching and bright, and a character that is friendly and appeals to young children. I would definitely recommend Northsouth Design to others.
