Brand Design FAQs

What is brand design?

Branding design refers to all brand elements. This includes your logo, colour scheme, typography, signage, brochures, website and other design components as a collective (this may also include your brand voice). It’s about making every touch point between a brand and its audience recognizable. Each and every brand element should be cohesive and ‘stand out’ from the competition.

What’s the difference between brand design and graphic design?

A brand designer’s job is to help you define your values, your customers and then create a visual identity from this information. A graphic designer may take the work of a brand designer and turn it into the individual visual aspects needed for your business, such as brochures, leaflets and business cards.

As an example, if you hire a graphic designer for just a logo, they will ask you what you want. If you hire a brand designer, they will start by asking you about your business. We cover both brand design and graphic design.

How long have you been brand designers for?

We have been in the design business for over 27 years and have produced hundreds of brand identities for businesses.

What does the brand design process look like?

Research Stage

All projects start with a face to face or Zoom call to talk about your business, your values, customers and your competitors. Before or after our meeting, we’ll ask you to complete our brand questionnaire. We will also discuss the style and colour with you. Before we can move onto the next stage, we’ll need a 50% deposit.

Sketching Concept Stage

Starting with a brainstorming session between the designers, we’ll start to develop some rough sketches. We’ll also still be researching competitors and making sure we are are producing a bespoke design rather than something that is already popular within your industry. We want your brand design to be original and to stand out.

Refining our ideas

We’ll develop our strongest sketches into designs on the computer and develop colour palettes.

Final concept ideas for presentation

We will further develop 3 concepts for presentation and how variations of the logo works and how the branding can be developed with colours, patterns and in some cases a brand mark.

Mock ups

As part of the presentation we always create a series of visual mock ups of various items which you need. This is when the branding really comes alive. It allows us to develop the branding more and also gives you a good overall feel for how the branding will look on all your material.

Stage 2 amends

After our presentation and feedback there may be some tweaks to a particular design or the colour palette.

Final Approval

Once we have final approval and the balance is paid, the final files are created and sent to you with a guide on each file and variation. If your new branding requires a more extensive branding document that will be used by internal and external suppliers then this will be created once we start work on the individual items we will produce.

How do you present the finished designs?

We’ll always present designs in person or if this is not possible on a Zoom call. We will never just send an email with designs. We much prefer to talk through our ideas and discuss initial feedback with you during the presentation as this gives us a much better understanding of what is needed going forward.

Do I need to sign a contract?

Yes, our terms and conditions can be seen on our website and we will send you an Adobe Sign PDF of this which we require you to electronically sign before a project starts.

How long will it take to complete the whole branding design process?

Allow at least 2 weeks from the initial research stage to presentation of our first designs. Depending on how complex the project is, this could vary. For large branding projects that include several items of collateral and extensive guidelines then 1-3 months to complete.

What will happen once a logo design is agreed on?

Once we have final approval and the balance is paid, the final files are created and sent to you with a guide on each file and variation. We can then start work on any other items you require. If your new branding requires a more extensive branding document that will be used by internal and external suppliers then this will be created once we start work on the individual items we will producing.

Who do you work with?

Everyone! We work with start up businesses right through to larger businesses who require re-branding. Businesses we’ve worked with include tradesmen and women within plumbing and heating, builders, electricians and home improvements. We have also worked with beauty salons, catering companies, accountants, physiotherapists, hypnotherapists, personal trainers, and dog trainers to name just a few.

Our brand identity is already established. Can we hire you for a smaller project like a postcard or website only?

Yes, we are graphic designers and web designers and can produce all your graphic material whether print or digital. Find our more about our graphic design and website design services.

I’m interested in working with you, how do I get started?

You can fill in our branding questionnaire here and then we’ll contact you to discuss the project in more detail and pricing (Costs dependent on the scale of the project).

How much does it cost?

This does depend on your final requirements for an entire branding project. We have a basic start up package which includes logo, business card design and facebook cover which starts at £450. This includes all the correct files you need for print and digital (vector and raster files), colour variations, a short guide on the files supplied, colour palette and typeface specification.

If your project requires a full branding with a suite of marketing items then this can be £600 +. Every client and project is different and we’ll happily discuss costs and advise on what you need. Some clients will continually work with us over a period of months or even years to brand all their material.
